Loving-Kindness Meditation (Metta) for Reiki Practitioners
Introduction:
Welcome, dear Reiki practitioners, to this Loving-Kindness Meditation, or Metta. This practice is designed to open our hearts, cultivate compassion, and deepen our connection to the universal life force energy. Let’s prepare ourselves to send loving-kindness to ourselves, our loved ones, and all beings around the world.
Preparation:
Find a comfortable seated position, either on a chair or on the floor, with your back straight but not tense. Allow your hands to rest gently on your lap, palms facing upwards, ready to receive and send Reiki energy. Close your eyes, take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, release any tension in your body.
Grounding:
Visualize roots extending from the soles of your feet deep into the earth, grounding you. Feel the support of the Earth beneath you. With each inhale, draw up healing energy from the Earth; with each exhale, let go of stress, tension, and negativity.
Connecting with Reiki:
Now, visualize the Reiki symbols you are attuned to, floating in the space around you, glowing with healing energy. Feel the Reiki energy activating in your palms, warming them. This is the energy of unconditional love, ready to be channeled through this meditation.
Self-Love:
Bring your focus to your heart chakra, located in the center of your chest. Visualize a soft, pink light glowing in your heart, warming and soothing you. Say to yourself, silently or aloud:
“May I be happy. May I be healthy. May I be safe. May I live with ease.”
Repeat these phrases gently, letting the feeling of loving-kindness for yourself grow with each repetition. If you notice any resistance or negative self-talk, acknowledge it without judgment and refocus on the warmth in your heart.
Sending Love to a Loved One:
Now, think of someone you love dearly. Visualize them in front of you, and see a stream of healing light flowing from your heart to theirs. Repeat the loving-kindness phrases for them:
“May you be happy. May you be healthy. May you be safe. May you live with ease.”
Imagine them receiving your love and healing energy, their face lighting up with joy and peace.
Expanding to Others:
Expand this loving energy further, to include friends, colleagues, acquaintances, and even people you have difficulties with. Visualize this healing light enveloping them, one by one, as you repeat the phrases of loving-kindness for each.
Embracing All Beings:
Finally, let this loving energy expand even further, to encompass all beings across the planet—humans, animals, plants, and the Earth itself. See the planet surrounded by a glowing light of loving-kindness, with every being bathed in this light.
“May all beings be happy. May all beings be healthy. May all beings be safe. May all beings live with ease.”
Closing:
Gently bring your awareness back to your heart chakra, feeling it radiant and full of love. Take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, slowly open your eyes. Carry this feeling of loving-kindness with you as you move through your day, ready to share this healing energy with everyone you meet.
Gratitude:
Express gratitude to the Reiki energy, to yourself for this practice, and to all beings for their existence and light.
