A Traveller’s Guide to Self-Reiki to Sleep Better at a Hotel or New Space
Traveling can be incredible and exhilarating, offering new experiences and opportunities, but for many, the prospect of sleeping in a different bed can be a challenge. We all have our routines, and when we sleep in a new place like a hotel, it can be hard to fall asleep easily. Just thinking about staying in a new place can cause anxiety for many people. And if you are like me and have a pet, you can also worry about how they will settle as animals are very sensitive to energy.
Spaces hold energy and sometimes, when we step into a new environment, it can feel unfamiliar and disrupt our sense of comfort. Whether you’re a frequent traveller or someone who occasionally embarks on a journey, managing the energy of your surroundings is crucial for a restful and rejuvenating experience.
Luckily as a Reiki Practitioner, we have a energy toolkit we can draw upon when we enter new spaces, to turn hotel rooms and new spaces into sanctuaries of tranquillity to help get a more restful nights sleep.
Integrating Reiki into your travel routine
Pre-Travel Reiki Session
Before you embark on your journey, consider having a Reiki session to balance your energy. This can help reduce anxiety and create a sense of calm that will carry into your travels. If you have a pet, you can explore animal Reiki sessions to help them align with the upcoming changes in environment. Visualise the room or space you are going to in your minds eye as you sit in Reiki with your pet. Repeat affirmations for a successful trip aloud or in your mind whenever you start to get anxiety ahead of your trip:
- I radiate calm and ease, allowing any travel stress to effortlessly melt away.
- I am safe and protected throughout my entire journey.
- I am a confident traveller, capable of navigating any situation that arises.
- I am surrounded by positive energy that attracts wonderful experiences.
- I am open to the adventure that awaits me on this journey.
- Every step of this trip brings me closer to new and exciting opportunities.
- I attract kind and helpful people who enhance my travel experience.
- I am a magnet for good vibes, and positivity flows effortlessly into my travels.
Adapting to Airline Restrictions
Sometime it helps to bring home away with you, and this includes tools from home that help you relax and sleep. Whether its an eye mask, some herbal tea bags, a pocket sized crystal or an aromatherapy roller ball with your favourite calming essential oil blend, bringing comforting tools from home can create a sense of familiarity and promote relaxation, contributing to a more restful and peaceful travel experience. Obviously you have to adapt to the practicalities of travel, as you may not be able to bring some items due to airline restrictions. So check before you travel.
Don’t forget to pack your pet’s favourite blanket and toy so they have a bit of home with them too whilst they are away.
Hotel Room Energy Cleanse
Upon arriving at your destination, take a moment to energetically cleanse your hotel room. Stand in the center of the room, and remove your shoes to establish a connection with the space. Take a few deep breaths, and visualize a flow of positive energy filling the space. You can use your hands to make sweeping motions, imagining any stagnant or negative energy dissipating.
Using the Cho Ku Rei
The Cho Ku Rei, also known as the power symbol in Reiki, is a powerful tool for focusing and amplifying energy. Utilizing this symbol can be particularly effective when cleansing a room or space of stagnant or negative energy. Envision the Cho Ku Rei symbol in your mind or draw it physically in the air with your dominant hand. The symbol consists of a coil or spiral, starting from the centre and expanding outward. As you draw the Cho Ku Rei, set a clear intention for the cleansing process. Place your hand on the area where you drew the symbol, imagining the energy flowing through your hand and into the symbol. You can also visualize the symbol expanding and covering the entire room, creating a protective and purifying barrier. While focusing on the Cho Ku Rei, you may choose to chant its name or affirmations related to cleansing and purifying the space. For example, you can say, “I cleanse and purify this space. Only positive energy may remain.”
Walk around the room, continuing to draw the Cho Ku Rei symbol in different areas. Pay attention to corners, doorways, and windows, as these areas often accumulate stagnant energy. Trust your intuition and spend more time in areas that feel particularly heavy or dense.
Once you’ve completed the cleansing, visualize the Cho Ku Rei sealing the positive energy within the space. You may choose to draw the symbol again, reinforcing the protective barrier.
Conclude the process by expressing gratitude for the positive energy now present in the room. Thank the universal life energy for assisting in the cleansing process. Depending on the frequency of activities in the space, you can repeat this process regularly to maintain a positive and balanced environment. Feel free to customize the process based on your intuition and the unique energy of the environment you’re working with.
Crystals for Travel
Carry a small crystal with you, such as amethyst or black tourmaline, to absorb and transmute any negative energy. Hold the crystal in your hands during your Reiki sessions or simply keep it close to you for an added sense of protection. A few other rounding crystals include:
- Shungite is known for its ability to absorb and neutralize negative energy. It’s also believed to have protective properties against electromagnetic radiation, making it a valuable companion during travel.
- Red Jasper is a nurturing and grounding stone that promotes emotional stability. It can be especially helpful during long journeys or when faced with unexpected challenges.
- Black Obsidian is a strong protective stone that shields against negativity. It also aids in grounding and can help release any tension or stress associated with travel.
- Smokey Quartz is a powerful absorber of negative energy and can help ground and transform it. It’s particularly useful in maintaining a sense of calm and stability during travel.
- Labradorite is a mystical stone that enhances intuition and psychic abilities. It can also act as a protective shield, making it suitable for travelers who want to stay connected to their inner guidance.
- Hematite is a powerful grounding stone that helps you stay connected with the Earth’s energy. It can provide a sense of strength and stability, making it useful during periods of change or transition, such as travel.
Choose the crystals that resonate with you personally, and consider creating a small crystal grid in your travel space for enhanced energetic support.
Reiki Sleep Meditation
Before bedtime, engage in a Reiki sleep meditation. Lie down comfortably, close your eyes, and visualize healing energy flowing through your body. Picture a protective white ball of light enveloping the bed. This imagery serves as a shield, creating a sense of security and peace within the confined space. Focus on each breath, allowing the energy to bring tranquillity and prepare your mind for a peaceful night’s sleep.
Distance Reiki for Home Comfort
If you’re separated from your home and feeling homesick, practice distance Reiki to send healing energy back to your living space. Envision the rooms filled with light and positivity, creating a connection that can offer comfort and familiarity.
Animal Reiki for your Pets
Animal Reiki can be a beneficial tool to help your pets relax and adapt to new environments. Gently place your hands on or near your pet’s body. Allow the energy to flow through your hands with the intention of bringing comfort and relaxation. Trust your pet’s instincts; if they move away, respect their boundaries. Pay attention to your pet’s body language. Signs of relaxation might include slowed breathing, closed eyes, or a willingness to be close to you. You can incorporate gentle stroking or brushing as part of the Animal Reiki session. Many animals find physical touch comforting. If you are attuned to Reiki symbols, you can silently or verbally invoke symbols like Cho Ku Rei and Sei He Ki. These symbols help amplify the energy and promote balance.
Remember, each pet is unique, so adapt your approach based on their individual needs and comfort levels. You can find out more about animal Reiki here.
Other Sleep tips when away from home
- Essential Oils: Lavender, chamomile, and bergamot are popular choices known for their relaxation properties. Apply an essential oil roll-on to your wrists, temples, or under your nose before bedtime. If you are travelling with pets make sure the oils are pet safe before use!
- Small Journal or Gratitude Diary: Documenting your thoughts, feelings, and gratitude in a small journal before bedtime can help clear your mind and promote a sense of calm. Reflecting on positive experiences from your travels can enhance your overall well-being.
- Travel-Friendly Meditation App: Download a meditation app on your phone or tablet to guide you through relaxation exercises or sleep-inducing meditations.
- Healing music: sound can be a powerful tool for purification and relaxation. Whether you’re looking to create a serene atmosphere for meditation, ease stress, or enhance the effectiveness of energy practices like Reiki, incorporating healing music can significantly contribute to your overall sense of balance and harmony. If you are a sound practitioner, you could bring a tuning fork to break up and clear away any negative energy in your hotel. Or you could simply play healing music on your phone. Nature sounds for example are excellent for creating a tranquil atmosphere that supports relaxation and meditation. Animals also respond well to calming music.
The power of intention and the practice of Reiki can be a comforting companion for travellers seeking sanctuary in the most unexpected places. By acknowledging the energy around you and taking proactive steps to maintain balance, you can create a harmonious environment that supports both your well-being and that of your beloved pets if they accompany you on your travels. Embrace the power of Reiki to make your travels not only incredible but also deeply rejuvenating. Experiment with these suggestions and tailor them to suit your personal preferences and needs. Safe travels!
