Healing the Solar Plexus Chakra: Simple Ways to Reclaim Your Power and Confidence [Chakra Healing Series]
Coming Into Your Power: A Journey to Heal the Solar Plexus Chakra
There is a fire inside you. Not the reckless, destructive kind, but the steady, clear, purposeful kind that knows exactly what it wants and is no longer willing to apologise for wanting it. That fire lives in the Solar Plexus Chakra. It is the energy centre of personal power, self-worth, confidence and the deep, unshakeable knowing that you are capable, you are enough, and your presence in this world genuinely matters.
We have grounded ourselves in the Root Chakra; found our safety, our belonging, our sense of home. We have opened to the flow of the Sacral Chakra; welcomed creativity, pleasure and emotional aliveness back into our lives. Now, in the third chakra, we rise. We step out of the shadows of self-doubt, people-pleasing and smallness, and we claim our place at the table, not arrogantly, but with the quiet, confident authority of someone who finally knows their own worth.
This blog explores the essence of the Solar Plexus Chakra and offers practical, powerful ways to heal, strengthen and beautifully ignite this vital energy centre.
Understanding the Solar Plexus Chakra: What Does It Influence?
The Solar Plexus Chakra, known in Sanskrit as Manipura (meaning “city of jewels” or “lustrous gem”) is the third of the seven primary chakras. Located in the upper abdomen, between the navel and the sternum, it is often described as the body’s inner sun; the radiant centre of personal power, will, identity and self-direction. When the Solar Plexus Chakra is balanced, we feel genuinely confident, purposeful and capable. We trust ourselves. We make decisions with clarity. We set boundaries without guilt. When it is blocked or depleted, life can feel like a constant battle with self-doubt, fear of judgment and the exhausting habit of shrinking ourselves to fit the expectations of others.
Here are some key facts about the Solar Plexus Chakra:
1. Location: The Solar Plexus Chakra is located in the upper abdomen, above the navel and below the ribcage. Its energy radiates outward like the sun, governing the entire abdominal region and its associated organs.
2. Colour: The associated colour of the Solar Plexus Chakra is bright, radiant yellow. It is the colour of sunlight, warmth, clarity and the kind of inner confidence that illuminates everything around it. Working consciously with yellow can help activate and energise this chakra.
3. Element: The element associated with the Solar Plexus Chakra is Fire. Just as fire transforms, purifies and generates heat, a balanced Manipura transforms self-doubt into self-belief, converts intention into action and generates the inner warmth of genuine self-respect.
4. Energy and Symbolism: The word Manipura translates to “city of jewels”, a gloriously evocative name that speaks to the abundance of personal power, unique gifts and inner riches housed within this energy centre. Its symbol is a ten-petalled lotus containing a downward-pointing triangle surrounded by fire, representing the transformation of raw energy into conscious will and purposeful action.
5. Key Qualities: The Solar Plexus Chakra governs our sense of identity, personal power and self-worth. Its key qualities include:
- Personal Power and Will: The Solar Plexus Chakra is the seat of our personal power; our ability to take decisive action, assert ourselves with confidence and direct our energy purposefully toward our goals. A balanced Manipura knows what it wants and is not afraid to go after it.
- Self-Esteem and Self-Worth: This chakra governs the fundamental belief we hold about our own value. A healthy Solar Plexus Chakra does not need external validation to feel worthy, it knows its own worth from the inside out.
- Confidence and Courage: A balanced Manipura allows us to show up fully, to share our opinions, offer our talents, take up space and step forward even when we are afraid. This is not the loud, performative confidence of the ego but the quiet, steady courage of someone who has come home to themselves.
- Healthy Boundaries: The Solar Plexus Chakra governs our ability to say no without guilt, to protect our energy without apology and to honour our own needs without shrinking. Boundaries are not walls, they are the respectful fences that keep our garden safe.
- Purpose and Direction: When the Manipura is balanced, we have a clear, energised sense of direction. We know what we stand for, what we are working toward and why. Life feels purposeful rather than random.
6. Physical Association: The Solar Plexus Chakra is linked to the digestive system (the stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas and small intestine). It also governs the adrenal glands and the body’s metabolic processes. Imbalances can manifest as digestive issues, IBS, ulcers, chronic fatigue, blood sugar irregularities or persistent tension in the upper abdomen.
7. Imbalance and Blockages: An underactive Solar Plexus Chakra can show up as low self-esteem, chronic self-doubt, difficulty making decisions, fear of conflict, people-pleasing, lack of motivation, victim mentality and a persistent sense of powerlessness. An overactive Solar Plexus Chakra may manifest as controlling behaviour, aggression, arrogance, perfectionism, an inability to accept criticism or a compulsive need to dominate situations and relationships.
8. Balanced Solar Plexus Chakra: When the Solar Plexus Chakra is in balance, we feel genuinely powerful in the truest sense of the word; not power over others, but power within ourselves. We make confident decisions, honour our commitments to ourselves, set boundaries with grace and pursue our goals with focused, purposeful energy. We feel neither small nor inflated, simply, solidly, ourselves.
9. Mantra: The bija mantra (seed sound) associated with the Solar Plexus Chakra is “Ram.” Chanting this mantra during meditation activates the fire element within the Manipura, helping to dissolve self-doubt, ignite inner confidence and restore a healthy sense of personal power.
10. Governing Life Aspects: The Solar Plexus Chakra governs personal identity, self-esteem, willpower, professional ambition, the capacity for self-discipline, our relationship with authority (both our own and others’) and our fundamental belief in our own ability to create the life we desire.
Why Does the Solar Plexus Chakra Become Unbalanced?
Understanding why the Solar Plexus Chakra becomes blocked is a profound act of self-compassion. Because so much of what dims this energy centre was never our fault, it was the predictable result of environments, relationships and systems that were not designed to support us in knowing our own worth.
Here are the most common reasons why:
Criticism, humiliation and shaming in childhood The Solar Plexus Chakra develops primarily between the ages of eighteen months and three years — the period developmental psychologists call the “will stage,” when children begin to assert their independence, test their autonomy and experiment with their own power. When that healthy expression of will is consistently met with punishment, ridicule or humiliation, the child learns that asserting themselves is dangerous. That their voice is unwelcome. That their desires are inconvenient. This learning becomes encoded in the Solar Plexus Chakra and can persist as chronic self-doubt, fear of judgment and habitual self-suppression well into adult life.
Authoritarian or controlling environments Growing up in a household, school or religious environment that prioritised obedience over individuality, conformity over self-expression and compliance over authentic selfhood has a direct and lasting impact on the Manipura. When the message, spoken or unspoken, was “your power is threatening” or “stay small and you will be safe,” the Solar Plexus Chakra responds by dimming its fire.
Chronic comparison and competitive environments The Solar Plexus Chakra is deeply sensitive to how we are seen and evaluated in relation to others. Growing up in environments that were highly competitive, where worth was measured by performance, achievement or external markers of success, can create a Solar Plexus Chakra that is perpetually scanning for its own inadequacy. Even when such environments are well-intentioned — driven by a desire to motivate — the long-term energetic impact is often a deep undercurrent of “I am not enough” that no achievement can ever quite silence.
Abuse of power — experienced or witnessed Experiences of bullying, emotional manipulation, narcissistic abuse or any dynamic in which another person consistently exercised power over us in harmful ways can profoundly damage the Solar Plexus Chakra. When our attempts to assert ourselves were met with punishment, when our boundaries were consistently violated, or when we witnessed power being weaponised around us, we may have learned that having power — or even wanting it — is dangerous. The energetic response is an overactive vigilance combined with an underactive sense of personal authority.
People-pleasing and the erasure of self Many people arrive at Solar Plexus Chakra healing not through dramatic trauma but through the quiet, cumulative erosion of the self that comes from decades of people-pleasing. When we consistently prioritise other people’s comfort over our own truth, defer our desires to avoid conflict, swallow our opinions to keep the peace or shrink our ambitions to avoid making others feel uncomfortable, the Manipura becomes unbalanced. The fire does not go out all at once — it dims, slowly and almost imperceptibly, until one day we look in the mirror and realise we no longer know what we actually think, want or feel.
Failures that were never reframed The Solar Plexus Chakra is the chakra of action — and action inevitably involves risk, and risk inevitably involves failure. How we are supported (or not supported) in processing failure has a profound impact on the health of the Manipura. When failures were met with shame, withdrawal of love or the implicit message that trying and failing is worse than not trying at all, many people learn to protect themselves from failure by avoiding action altogether. The result is a Solar Plexus Chakra paralysed not by incapacity but by the fear of being seen to fall.
The beautiful thing is that the Solar Plexus Chakra is inherently oriented toward growth, action and becoming. The fire in the Manipura does not die. It waits. It can be suppressed for years, decades, even a lifetime; but the moment we begin to create conditions in which it is safe to burn, it responds. Slowly at first, and then with a warmth and clarity that changes everything.
Simple Healing Solar Plexus Chakra Activities
Healing the Solar Plexus Chakra is about reclaiming the authority of your own inner world; learning to trust your instincts, honour your desires and step forward with the quiet, grounded confidence of someone who finally knows their own worth. It is about relearning that you are allowed to take up space, to have opinions, to want things and to pursue them without endlessly seeking permission. Here are ten simple, powerful ways to heal and ignite your Solar Plexus Chakra:
1. Spending time in sunshine The Solar Plexus Chakra is intimately connected to the energy of the sun. Spending time in natural sunlight is one of the simplest and most direct ways to activate the Manipura. Try taking 5 minutes out of your day to sit in the garden or go for a brief walk and enjoy some sunshine. You might like to practice yoga in the morning light, or simply sit in sunlight with your hands on your abdomen and your attention on the warm yellow glow of the Manipura awakening. Let the sun do what it does so naturally, illuminate, warm and energise.
2. Yellow foods Nourish the Solar Plexus Chakra from the inside out with warm, vibrant yellow foods. Think bananas, yellow peppers, sweetcorn, pineapple, lemon, ginger, turmeric and chamomile tea. Spicy foods, particularly ginger, black pepper and chilli, are also powerfully activating for this fire chakra. The Manipura governs digestion, so mindful, nourishing eating is itself a healing practice for this energy centre.
3. Solar Plexus meditation Sit comfortably and close your eyes. Bring your awareness to the area between your navel and your ribcage. Visualise a warm, radiant yellow sun glowing at your solar plexus — bright, steady and perfectly contained. With each inhale, feel it growing stronger and more luminous. With each exhale, release any energy of self-doubt, fear or smallness that no longer serves you. Hold the image of your inner sun burning clearly and confidently for at least five to ten minutes. This is a particularly powerful practice first thing in the morning before a day that requires courage.
4. Crystals Carry or place Solar Plexus Chakra crystals at the upper abdomen during meditation, on your desk while you work or in your pocket throughout the day. Yellow and golden stones resonate most powerfully with the Manipura. Wonderful choices include citrine, yellow calcite, tiger’s eye, amber, pyrite and golden topaz. See the crystals section below for full details.
5. Affirmations Affirmations for the Solar Plexus Chakra work best when they are spoken with genuine authority; not as aspirations but as declarations. Stand in front of a mirror if you can, meet your own eyes, and let the words land in your body rather than just your mind. A full collection of Manipura affirmations is included below.
6. Core-strengthening yoga The Solar Plexus Chakra corresponds physically to the core — and yoga poses that build strength, heat and activation in the abdominal region are among the most effective tools for healing the Manipura. Warrior I and Warrior II build confidence and groundedness simultaneously. Boat Pose (Navasana) directly fires up the solar plexus. Plank builds inner fortitude. Sun Salutations honour the solar energy of this chakra and generate the kind of physical heat that mirrors the inner fire we are working to awaken.
7. Breathwork — Solar Breath Activation The Solar Plexus Chakra responds beautifully to steady, conscious breathwork that builds energy in a safe and balanced way. A simple and effective practice is to bring your awareness to the breath while gently engaging the abdomen. As you inhale through the nose, allow the belly to expand. As you exhale, softly draw the navel back towards the spine, creating a subtle sense of activation in the Solar Plexus area. Keep the breath slow, smooth, and controlled. This creates a gentle internal “stoking” of your inner fire — awakening confidence, clarity, and personal power without overwhelming the system. You may choose to visualise a warm golden light at the Solar Plexus, growing brighter with each breath. Begin with 1–2 minutes, and gradually increase as it feels comfortable.
8. Aromatherapy Warm, spicy, energising essential oils resonate beautifully with the fire energy of the Solar Plexus Chakra. Look for lemon, grapefruit, ginger, black pepper, cinnamon, bergamot and rosemary. Diffuse them in the morning to ignite your sense of purpose, add a few drops to a warm bath with the intention of reclaiming your power, or blend with a carrier oil for an energising abdominal self-massage. The act of tending to your own body with warmth and intention is itself a Solar Plexus healing practice.
9. Journaling for power and purpose The Solar Plexus Chakra holds our stories about who we are and what we are capable of — and reflective journaling is one of the most powerful ways to begin rewriting those stories. Try exploring: Where in my life am I playing small? Whose voice is telling me I’m not enough — and is that voice actually true? What would I do if I knew I couldn’t fail? What boundaries do I need to set, and what is stopping me? Write without editing. Let the honest answers come. The Manipura heals when we finally tell the truth about our own power.
10. Sound therapy — Chanting Ram The Solar Plexus Chakra resonates with the musical note E and the bija mantra “Ram.” Chanting Ram during meditation sends a vibrational signal directly to the Manipura, helping to dissolve stagnant self-doubt and activate the fire of personal power. You can also work with 528 Hz solfeggio frequencies, associated with transformation, confidence and the restoration of authentic self-expression. Drumming — particularly upbeat, energising rhythms — also activates the fire element of this chakra beautifully.
Healing Solar Plexus Chakra Crystals
Crystals carry unique vibrational frequencies, and certain stones resonate powerfully with the warm, radiant, fire-like energy of the Solar Plexus Chakra. Working with these crystals with clear intention, for example holding them at your solar plexus, meditating with them or placing them in your workspace, can help dissolve blocks to confidence and personal power and support the steady awakening of the Manipura. Here are eight of the most powerful:
1. Citrine Citrine is the quintessential Solar Plexus Chakra stone. It is warm, radiant and deeply energising. Known as the “merchant’s stone” or “success stone,” it is associated with abundance, confidence, creative power and the ability to attract and manifest. Citrine’s golden hues resonate with this center’s frequency, helping to “brighten” and energise it. Citrine is known as a stone that dissipates and grounds heavy energy. It is a wonderful daily companion for anyone working to dissolve self-doubt and step more fully into their personal power.
2. Tiger’s Eye Tiger’s Eye is one of the most beloved stones for Solar Plexus Chakra healing, working simultaneously with personal power and grounded confidence. It is associated with courage, willpower, clarity of intention and the ability to take decisive action without being destabilised by fear or self-doubt. Tiger’s Eye is particularly helpful for those who know what they want but struggle to pursue it, it helps to bridge the knowing and the doing.
3. Yellow Calcite Yellow calcite is a gentle yet powerfully uplifting stone that works specifically with the emotional dimension of Solar Plexus Chakra healing. It is said to help dissolve deep-seated feelings of inadequacy, reawaken motivation that has gone flat and infuse the energy field with the kind of warm, steady self-confidence that comes not from ego but from genuine self-knowing.
4. Pyrite Known as “fool’s gold” is a powerfully energising stone associated with abundance, ambition, confidence and the ability to take bold action in pursuit of meaningful goals. It is a particularly strong ally for those working to heal their relationship with money, success and their own professional worth.
5. Amber Amber, fossilised tree resin carrying millions of years of solar energy, is one of the most warming and enlivening stones available to the energy healer. It is associated with vitality, optimism, personal radiance and the restoration of a healthy, confident life force. Amber is a wonderful companion during periods of burnout, depletion or chronic self-doubt, gently restoring warmth and aliveness to a depleted Solar Plexus Chakra.
6. Golden Topaz Golden topaz is associated with personal power, abundance and the confident pursuit of one’s deepest intentions. It is believed to amplify the energy of whatever it is placed beside — making it a particularly potent ally when working with Solar Plexus Chakra affirmations or intention-setting practices.
7. Sunstone Sunstone — already beloved for its connection to the Sacral Chakra — is equally resonant with the Solar Plexus, carrying the joyful, radiant, autonomous energy of the sun. It is associated with leadership, confidence, creative expression and the liberation of the self from the habit of self-sacrifice. If you tend to shrink in groups, over-give at your own expense or dim your light for others, sunstone is a beautifully supportive ally.
8. Lemon Quartz Lemon quartz is a bright, clarifying stone that works with the mental dimension of Solar Plexus Chakra healing; dissolving mental fog, enhancing focus and helping us see our own situation with greater clarity and objectivity. It is particularly helpful for decision-making, setting clear intentions and releasing the kind of overthinking that keeps us paralysed rather than moving forward.
To work with these crystals, place them on your solar plexus during meditation, keep them on your desk or workspace as a daily reminder of your own power, or carry them with you on days when confidence feels out of reach. Cleanse them regularly and always set a clear, intentional invitation before working with them.
Affirmations for Healing the Solar Plexus Chakra
The Solar Plexus Chakra responds extraordinarily well to affirmations, partly because so much of its wounding is rooted in the stories we tell ourselves about our own worth and capability. Affirmations for the Manipura work best when spoken with real authority, real feeling and real eye contact — with yourself. Stand in front of a mirror if you can. Let the words land in your body. Notice where they meet resistance, and breathe into that resistance rather than bypassing it.

- I am powerful. Not despite my softness — because of it.
- I stand fully in my own authority. I do not need permission to be who I am.

- I am becoming — daily, quietly, unstoppably — the most powerful version of myself.
Speak these affirmations each morning, write them in your journal, record them in your own voice and listen back. The Solar Plexus Chakra does not heal through passive consumption of positive words — it heals through the active, repeated, embodied experience of claiming your own worth. Speak them as if you mean them, even on the days you don’t quite yet. Especially on those days.
Healing the Solar Plexus Chakra is one of the most transformative journeys in the entire chakra system — and one of the most urgently needed in a world that has done such an efficient job of teaching so many of us to doubt ourselves. The Manipura does not ask you to become someone different, bolder or more special than you already are. It simply asks you to stop pretending to be less. To stop the performance of smallness. To let the inner sun — which has been burning patiently all along, behind every layer of doubt and fear and learned inadequacy — finally, fully, shine.
You were never the problem. You were always the light.
Remember that chakra healing is a complementary practice and not a substitute for medical treatment. If you have any serious medical concerns, always consult a qualified healthcare professional.
