5 simple ways to use crystals in your Reiki healing sessions
Do you love crystals but sometimes wonder how to actually use them in a healing session? If you do, you’re not alone!
I’ve had lots of people reach out to me asking the same questions:
“Can I use crystals during a Reiki treatment?”
“How do I combine crystals with other energy healing techniques?”
The lovely thing is, you don’t need to make things complicated.
So I wanted to share 5 simple ways to start bringing crystals into your healing sessions. Take what works for you and leave what doesn’t.
???? 1. Create a Crystal Talisman
One of my favourite ways to work with crystals is to use them as a talisman for a healing session.
Before your session begins, take a moment to think about your intention.
Close your eyes, hold that intention in your heart, and then choose a crystal to represent it.
For example:
- Rose quartz is traditionally associated with self-love, compassion and kindness.
- Amethyst is often used as a symbol of peace, reflection and spiritual awareness.
- Labradorite is traditionally associated with transformation, intuition and new beginnings.
Place your chosen crystal somewhere in your healing space where you can easily see it.
Imagine it symbolically broadcasting your intention into the room.
Whenever your attention wanders, simply look at your crystal or hold it for a moment to reconnect with your original intention.
Adding this extra layer of meaning can make your healing sessions feel more personal and purposeful.
???? 2. Place a Crystal in Your Client’s Hand
This is such a simple technique, but it can be a lovely addition to a Reiki session.
With your client’s permission, invite them to hold a smooth, comfortable crystal during their treatment.
You can gently place it in their hand and let them know they can choose to connect with the crystal as the session unfolds, without needing to do anything in particular.
I like to use grounding stones such as:
- Smoky quartz, traditionally associated with grounding and stability.
- Hematite, often used as a symbol of strength and balance.
- Black tourmaline, traditionally associated with grounding and energetic protection.
Another lovely way to use this technique is at the end of a session.
Invite your client to hold a comforting crystal as the session comes to a close.
Encourage them to take a few gentle breaths, notice the weight of the stone in their hand and reconnect with their surroundings.
It’s a simple, mindful way to bring the session to a close.
Grounding stones work beautifully here too, or you might choose something a little softer, such as lepidolite, moonstone or blue lace agate, traditionally associated with calm, emotional balance and gentle reassurance.
Always let your client decide whether they’d like to hold a crystal, and choose stones that are clean, smooth and comfortable.
????3. Create a simple grid around your healing tools or space
You don’t need a complicated crystal grid template to begin working with crystals. Try placing a few crystals around your tools in your healing space – whether that’s a singing bowl, tuning forks, incense, candles or other items you use in your practice.
You might arrange them in a circle for a sense of harmony and wholeness, or in a simple pattern that feels meaningful to you. Before placing each crystal, take a moment to hold it in your hands, connect with it and silently or aloud state your intention for the session.
Another lovely idea is to place a crystal in each corner of your healing room. Think of it as a little sacred, protective boundary for your healing work. You can leave the grid as long as you want to maintain that intention, just be sure to cleanse your stones regularly and after any Reiki sessions.
Just remember to keep crystals away from open flames and avoid placing them where someone might trip over them.

????4. Incorporate Crystals into Chakra-Focused Reiki
If you already work with the chakras during Reiki sessions, crystals can provide another creative element to explore.
Many crystal healing traditions associate particular colours and stones with different chakras.
For example:
- Root chakra: Red jasper or smoky quartz, traditionally associated with grounding.
- Sacral chakra: Carnelian, associated with creativity and emotional expression.
- Solar plexus chakra: Citrine, associated with confidence and personal empowerment.
- Heart chakra: Rose quartz or green aventurine, associated with compassion and harmony.
- Throat chakra: Blue lace agate, associated with communication and self-expression.
- Third eye chakra: Amethyst, associated with intuition and reflection.
- Crown chakra: Clear quartz, associated with clarity and spiritual awareness.

You might choose one crystal that reflects the intention of the session, or create a small arrangement of chakra-associated stones beside your treatment table.
Some practitioners also place crystals on or near the body during a session.
If you explore this approach, always ask permission first, use comfortable lightweight stones and avoid sensitive areas.
A little practical tip: It helps to place the crystals on a cloth or blanket covering your client rather than directly on their body. This gives the stones a more stable surface and helps prevent them from slipping or rolling off during the session. ????
???? 5. Use a Crystal to Prepare Yourself Before a Session
As practitioners, we often spend time preparing our healing spaces, but it’s just as important to take a moment for ourselves. Before welcoming your client, choose a crystal and sit quietly for a few minutes. You might hold amethyst, clear quartz or another favourite stone in your hands. Close your eyes, take a few gentle breaths and notice the weight and texture of the crystal.
Allow it to become a point of focus as you settle your thoughts and bring your attention into the present moment. You might silently set an intention such as:
“May I approach this session with compassion, presence and an open heart.”
It’s a lovely little ritual that can help you transition from the busyness of everyday life into your healing practice.
???? 6. Use Crystals to Symbolically Cleanse and Prepare Your Healing Space
Many crystal healing traditions use particular stones as symbols of purification, clarity and protection.
You might choose:
- Selenite, traditionally associated with clarity and cleansing.
- Clear quartz, often used as a symbol of clarity and focused intention.
- Black tourmaline, traditionally associated with grounding and protection.
Place your chosen crystals on a shelf, near the entrance to your treatment room or beside your healing tools.
As you prepare your space, take a moment to set an intention for the session ahead.
You might imagine releasing the distractions of the day and welcoming a fresh, peaceful atmosphere.
Of course, crystals don’t replace practical cleaning, fresh air or good hygiene. Think of this as a symbolic ritual that helps you prepare your space with care and intention.
And remember that some crystals, including selenite, can be damaged by water, so always check the appropriate care instructions before cleansing your stones.
???? 7. Create a Crystal Intention Ritual to Open or Close Your Session
Another beautiful way to incorporate crystals into your healing practice is through a simple opening or closing ritual.
Before a session, you might invite your client to choose a crystal from a small selection.
Ask them whether there’s a quality or intention they’d like to focus on, such as calm, confidence, self-compassion or clarity.
They can hold the crystal for a few moments while reflecting on that intention.
At the end of the session, you might invite them to reconnect with the same crystal and notice how they’re feeling.
There’s no need to analyse the experience or expect anything particular to happen.
Sometimes simply taking a quiet moment to reflect can be meaningful in itself.
You could even invite your client to choose a word that captures what they’d like to carry into the rest of their day.
It’s a gentle way to make your sessions feel more personal and collaborative.
Bringing Crystals into Your Healing Practice
As you can see, there are so many ways to incorporate crystals into Reiki, sound healing and other energy healing practices.
And you don’t need a huge crystal collection or elaborate techniques to begin.
Sometimes one carefully chosen crystal, a clear intention and a few mindful moments are all you need to create a meaningful ritual.
The most important thing is to explore what feels right for you and the people you work with.
